Handcrafted unique items in steel, copper and wood (or other materials of interest)

Candace Martens started her smithing career in 2006 with local mentors, Richard Rightmyer and John Rausch, who instilled the philosophy that one never stops learning. Candace is a strong proponent of building solid fundamental skill and continuing education. She has and continues to travel all over the country to take classes with instructors that inspire her. She actively supports the New York State Designer Blacksmiths, demonstrating at meets and serving as a past President for several years.
Candace’s teaching experience extends many years further as a 4th Degree blackbelt teaching Aikido, as a tutor in Civil Engineering after graduation from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and as a frequent demonstrator for public events such as the Great New York State Fair. As the lead instructor and Blacksmithing Director at the Rochester Arc and Flame Center for several years she brought her unique perspective to blacksmithing education by bridging art, science and steel. Candace was able to develop an adaptable program that created a comfortable and rewarding learning environment for the thousands of students she had over the years.
Now, Candace not only shares her passion for blacksmithing and bladesmithing through the custom handcrafted pieces she creates but also through the limited private lessons she continues to offer at her personal shop.
